Computing Services Archives
The IBM 3083 took over providing the University mainframe
service in about December 1985. Among the few photos surviving from this
era are two pictures of a snowball fight between the successful IBM salesmen
(including Martin Trees), and Dermot McLain, director of ACS, immediately
after the deal was signed.

Some photos taken in the computer room when the IBM
machine was being dismantled. The only piece of kit on the entire system
worth anything at the end was one of the printers, and IBM gave us a (very
small) cheque for it.
